It appears as if there is no love lost between the two largest Cayman law firms. In response to Maples & Calder issuing an announcement on its own website that a team of seven partners and three associates was going to be joining from rival firm Walkers, Walkers promptly issued their own website announcement by way of response, stating drily that ”all of the individuals named in Maples’ announcement are current employees of Walkers and we will immediately let our clients know if and when they leave the firm.”

The scale of the hire took the Cayman legal profession by surprise but also appears to have caused some ripples of movement in the opposite direction with news emerging of at least one Maples lawyer now heading in the opposite direction.
