The Forbes Rich List 2012 has been revealed and the revelation that a record number of billionaires have made the list this year prompted me to think just how bad can the economic crisis be? However I guess in most of these cases the old saying of “the rich get rich and the poor get poorer” probably is ringing true.
With a fortune estimated at $69bn Carlos Slim, the Mexican telecoms tycoon, has been named the world’s richest person for the third year in a row.
A staggering 1,226 billionaires made the list this year compared to 1,210 in 2011. The average net worth of each billionaire is $3.7bn.
Continuing his rise up the ranks, 27 year old Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has a net worth of $17.5bn (£11.12bn), making him the 35th richest person in the world.
So while I go off to dream up a business creating the latest social media craze to get myself on that list next year, here is an article with details of the other lucky people to have made this prestigious list!
