The booming offshore financial services industry has created excellent
opportunities for project managers. More and more employers are
realizing that professional project managers can alleviate the pressure
on senior management by taking the lead on implementation and change
management projects.
Project management is quickly becoming established as a
professional career path in its own right. Opportunities in project
management are becoming more common in the offshore financial sector as
companies outgrow their archaic systems and need to continually innovate
to make their systems more efficient. Opportunities exist not only as
a project manager, but also as a member of a support team or as a team
leader.
Offshore financial services companies generally look for
candidates with broad knowledge and experience in systems analysis and
IT, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as excellent
interpersonal skills.
Candidates should be familiar with most modern business analysis
methodologies. Employers generally looks for business/systems analysts
with a good academic background (normally a Bachelor's Degree at
minimum) in Computer Science, IT, Mathematics or Physics. For financial
services roles, some financial services industry experience is
preferable, but not essential.
A candidate should have at least two years experience in a
project management role as well as one or more of the following
designations: PRINCE2, PMP, PMI, PMO, PMI, PMBOK, CAPM.
